Here are the top selling wines on Tmall last year

China’s most popular wine list on Tmall is showing a split personality. On one end: dirt-cheap, sugary, TikTok-friendly local bottles flying off the virtual shelves. On the other: premium heavyweights like Penfolds refusing to budge from their throne.

No. 4 Tonhwa Hongmei Amur Grape Wine
Origin:
China
Grape variety: Amur grape
Price: RMB 59 (about US$8) and RMB 45 (about US$6)
Alcohol: 9% vol and 15% vol

The No. 4-ranked product is also from Tonghua.

The Hongmei trademark was created in 1952 and was once one of China’s classic food-export brands. For a time, it became almost synonymous with Tonghua wine itself. For many consumers, the product carries a sense of nostalgia — a sweet memory shared across generations.

Its label retains a distinctly retro style, marked by the visual language of China’s planned-economy era. Yet its screw-cap closure aligns well with today’s preference for convenience and suits the relaxed drinking occasions associated with sweet wines.

This product listing includes two versions, one at 9% vol and the other at 15% vol. One consumer commented that it is “especially good for making mulled wine.”

According to Taobao/Tmall data, the product recorded 200-plus sales in 24 hours and more than 30,000 cumulative sales.
