Nick Chan is the Director and CEO of Enoteca Hong Kong, a leading wine retailer with eight locations across Hong Kong.

“I always like to drink Rhone during the Christmas Season. Especially Northern Rhone. 100% Syrah which is well matched with games and a lot of Christmas Festival dishes.” he suggested. For this year, he would sip the highly-rated Pierre Gaillard Cote Rotie Esprit et Blonde

Its 2016 vintage was rated by Jancis Robinson with a score of 19 out of 20. “Wow! What a stunning nose, with beef, liquorice, leather, black fruit, and menthol character,” Jancis exclaimed in her tasting note and called the vintage as “one of the best Côte Rôties of the vintage”. Its 2018 vintage is also given a score of 95 by Wine Advocate.

When asked about his gift choice, Nick reckoned Italy’s Allegrini should not be missed, “Why not a bottle of Amarone, good to share with their exceptional Amarone production.”

Nick’s choice for his dearest friend would be Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG. The wine is a Valpolicella blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta.

The wine is traditionally enjoyed with game, roasted and grilled meats, casseroles and well matured cheeses. Its distinctive flavour can compliment exotic sweet and sour dishes therefore it fits with Asian and middle-eastern dishes. It is suggested to be served at 18°C (64°F) and opened an hour before drinking.
