Cambodia has the smallest wine import market among the nine economies examined, reflecting both its relatively small population of about 18 million and its lower per capita income, as well as a limited underlying wine consumption base.

Wine consumption in Cambodia relies heavily on hotels, restaurants, tourism and expatriate consumers. In recent years, the growth of upscale dining and international hotels in cities such as Phnom Penh and Siem Reap led some in the industry to view Cambodia as a potential Southeast Asian wine market.

But the market faces significant uncertainties. A property market correction, weaker consumer confidence and a slower-than-expected tourism recovery could all weigh on premium consumption. Meanwhile, international scrutiny of human trafficking, telecommunications fraud and other security concerns has also put pressure on Cambodia’s tourism image and traveler confidence.

In the first half of 2026, Cambodia’s wine imports fell 38.10% by volume and 16.42% by value, suggesting demand remains under pressure.

For international wineries, given the market’s already limited size, Cambodia may not yet be a priority destination unless they have access to reliable hotel, restaurant or tourism-related distribution channels.
