From policy shifts to new consumption trends, here are ten keywords that illustrate the landscape of this year’s Chinese wine market.

White Wine Booming

This year’s Chinese market wasn’t all bad news. With the development of the mass consumption market for wine, new product categories and models emerged, notably the trend of dry white wine.

The popularity of dry white wine began to rise in 2023, attracting many new importers and raising concerns about potential overstocking at that time. It was encouraging to see an increase in China’s import of New Zealand and German wines in both volume and value from January to November 2024. Imports from New Zealand grew by 9.99% in volume and 6.60% in value, while German wine imports rose by 12.95% in volume and 11.83% in value. Both countries are renowned for their white wines.

Vino Joy News previously reported that China’s Gen Z is increasingly appreciating the refreshing taste and fruity aroma of white wines, particularly during the hot summer months. These wines are favored in relaxed settings such as casual drinking, afternoon tea, and informal gatherings with friends, rather than at traditional formal business dinners.
