Hong Kong is set to welcome its first international outpost of the Sophia Loren House in mid April, a dining and entertainment venue that promises to bring a slice of Italian glamour to the heart of Wan Chai. Taking residence in the historic Woo Cheong Pawn Shop building on Johnston Road, this establishment aims to recreate the charm and elegance of Rome during the swinging 60s and 70s, inspired by the iconic Italian actress Sophia Loren and the era’s embodiment of “la dolce vita.”

The Sophia Loren House distinguishes itself by offering not just a meal, but a multifaceted dining experience across its four stories. Each floor presents a unique concept, promising something for everyone, whether you’re a pizza lover, seafood aficionado, dance enthusiast, or simply in search of a romantic rooftop cocktail.

A Taste of Naples on Johnston Road

The adventure begins at the Sophia Loren Pizzeria, where guests can indulge in authentic Neapolitan pizzas. Made with ingredients sourced directly from Italy, these pizzas are a testament to the culinary authenticity that lies at the heart of the Sophia Loren House.

Intimate Dining at Casa Sophia Loren

One floor up, Casa Sophia Loren offers a sophisticated yet cozy atmosphere for seafood lovers. This intimate Italian restaurant pays homage to classic dining, featuring an open kitchen that allows diners to witness the magic of Italian cooking firsthand.

Step Back in Time at STAGE

For those looking to relive the vibrant 70s, STAGE offers live performances, a dance floor, and a nostalgia-charged atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for a night of indulgence, capturing the spirit of the era’s extravagant parties.

Stargazing at Pellicola Rooftop

At the top, the Pellicola Rooftop provides a trendy and romantic setting for evening gatherings. Overlooking the colonial tramway and bustling Johnston Road, it’s an idyllic spot for cocktails under the stars.

Nicola Giglio, the visionary behind this ambitious project, expressed his excitement about creating a space that blends culinary excellence with the art of living well. “We’re thrilled to bring this ambitious project to life, inviting our guests to savor every moment of their dining experience with us,” he said. This sentiment is echoed by the venue’s homage to Sophia Loren, whose elegance and sophistication have inspired the multi-concept theme, promising a unique atmosphere and experience on each floor.

Sophia Loren House joins the Sophia Loren Restaurant brand, inaugurated by the actress with her first namesake restaurant in collaboration with Neapolitan entrepreneur and politician Luciano Cimmino in Florence in 2021. The brand has since expanded to Milan, Rome’s Fiumicino Airport, and the southern Italian port of Bari.

As the first international footprint of the Sophia Loren Restaurant brand, Sophia Loren House in Hong Kong is a significant addition to the city’s gastronomic scene. With its blend of history, culture, and gastronomy, it’s set to become a landmark destination for those looking to indulge in the very essence of “la dolce vita.”

Sophia Loren herself shared her passion for the project, stating, “In my life, I have had many passions, and one of them is undoubtedly food. No director has ever managed to put me on a diet – and the hours I spent in the kitchen were among the happiest of my life.”

“When they asked to open a chain of restaurants in my honour, I was happy to consent to this wonderful adventure and proud to be part of a team of talented Neapolitans who wish to export the “veracity” of Neapolitan cuisine to the world.”
