As sustainability moves from marketing slogan to business requirement, another major wine producer has joined the growing ranks of B Corp-certified companies.
Spanish wine producer Familia Torres has become the latest major wine company to earn B Corp certification, joining a growing number of wine businesses using the internationally recognised standard to demonstrate their sustainability credentials.
The company scored 121.3 points in the assessment, well above the 80-point threshold required for certification, placing it among the wine industry’s leading performers in environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices.
Familia Torres joins a small but expanding group of prominent wine companies that have secured B Corp certification, including Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), Concha y Toro, Bonterra Organic Estates, Felton Road Wines and Tasca d’Almerita.
According to certification body B Lab, the accreditation covers all of Familia Torres’ operations in Spain and Chile from April 2026 onwards, including its wine, spirits, olive oil and vinegar businesses.
Sustainability Moves Further into the Mainstream
The certification comes as climate change, biodiversity loss and corporate ESG commitments move higher up the agenda for wine producers worldwide.
For the wine industry, B Corp is increasingly becoming one of the most visible benchmarks of corporate sustainability. Established by U.S.-based non-profit B Lab in 2006, the certification evaluates companies across governance, employees, community impact, environmental performance and customer responsibility.
Companies must achieve a minimum score of 80 points to qualify.
Familia Torres’ result of 121.3 points places it comfortably above the certification threshold and reflects years of investment in sustainability initiatives across the business.
Mireia Torres, Director of Innovation and Sustainability at Familia Torres, described the certification as both recognition of past efforts and a framework for future improvement.
“B Corp helps us integrate social, environmental and financial sustainability into every decision we make and to continue driving ongoing improvement in everything we do,” she said.
“On my own behalf and on behalf of my entire family, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all our colleagues who, through their commitment and with the leadership of our Managing Director, Fabrice Ducceschi, have made this recognition possible.”
Lucas Hunter, Interim CEO of B Lab Spain, welcomed Familia Torres into the organisation’s global community.
“We are delighted to welcome Familia Torres to the B Corp community,” he said.
“This global community works to reduce inequality, respect and regenerate the environment, strengthen communities, and create high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose. Familia Torres is leading by example and showing how these goals can be achieved in practice.”
Regenerative Viticulture Underpins Strategy
The strong score reflects Familia Torres’ long-standing focus on regenerative viticulture and organic farming.
Unlike traditional sustainability approaches, which largely focus on reducing environmental impact, regenerative agriculture aims to restore ecosystem health by improving soil quality, increasing biodiversity and strengthening the resilience of farming systems.
The concept has gained significant traction across the wine industry in recent years as producers grapple with climate-related challenges.
Familia Torres said regenerative viticulture and organic farming have become central pillars of its long-term strategy, with practices now being implemented across multiple wine regions.
The company has also expanded its climate programme, Torres & Earth, which focuses on reducing carbon emissions, improving water management and protecting biodiversity.
Miguel Torres, a fifth-generation member of the family, said the certification formalises values that have guided the company for generations.
“Becoming a B Corp does not change our DNA,” he said. “But it does formalise it and make it more visible to customers and consumers around the world.”
More Wine Companies Join the B Corp Movement
The certification reflects a broader trend across the global wine industry, where sustainability is increasingly viewed as a strategic business issue rather than simply a marketing initiative.
As producers face growing pressure from climate change, investors, regulators and consumers, B Corp certification is becoming an increasingly important way to demonstrate accountability and long-term commitment.
In recent years, a growing number of wine companies from France, Chile, Spain, Italy, New Zealand and the United States have joined the movement, including Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), Concha y Toro, Bonterra Organic Estates, Felton Road Wines and Tasca d’Almerita.
During the certification process, Familia Torres also received support from ACCIÓ, the Catalan Government’s agency for business competitiveness, through its Growth and Strategic Change Programme, which helps companies use innovation to drive sustainable development.
For Familia Torres, the certification is the latest milestone in a sustainability journey that has increasingly centred on regenerative agriculture, climate adaptation and environmental stewardship. For the wider wine industry, it is another sign that sustainability standards are becoming embedded in the way leading producers operate and compete.
