Coterie Holdings, a UK-based holding company focused on wine, acquired Global Wine Solutions, a supplier of fine wines and spirits to yachts, last Friday.

Founded in May 2023, Coterie Holdings is ambitious in expanding its portfolio of wine businesses, having acquired the wine importer Hallgarten & Novum Wines and the wine distributor Lay & Wheeler.

Liam Steevenson MW, the CEO of Global Wine Solutions, is excited about becoming a sister company to Lay & Wheeler. He stated: “Working alongside the incredibly talented Lay & Wheeler team and with the resource that Coterie Vaults offers us and our client base, dramatically enhances our capabilities, helping us continue to deliver outstanding solutions to our customers.”

Global Wine Solutions, founded by Steevenson in 2007, has offices in the UK, France, and the US. Another Master of Wine, Mark Pygott MW, is also a member of the company.

Steevenson commended the purchase, saying: “We are thrilled to become part of the Coterie Holdings family. This partnership brings together two organizations with a shared passion for excellence and innovation in the wine industry.”

Michael Saunders, the CEO of Coterie Holdings, emphasized the specialty of Global Wine Solutions in providing wines to yachts: “Global Wine Solutions is a natural fit for Coterie Holdings. Their expertise in sourcing and distributing Fine Wines & Spirits to some very specific customer sectors aligns perfectly with our vision for growth and delivering excellence across the industry.”

Saunders also shared a personal connection with Steevenson, stating: “My relationship with founder and CEO Liam Steevenson dates back over twenty years, and I have watched him innovate and execute consistently within the constraints of a normally traditional industry, so to bring him into the team, along with his obvious wine knowledge is incredibly exciting for all of us.”

Earlier in June, Saunders expressed his ambition to expand international business in Asia to the media. The global presence of Global Wine Solutions in key maritime hubs will be an important piece of this strategy.
