Bonhams, the UK-headquartered international auction house, has appointed Terrence Tang as the Head of the Wine & Spirits Department in Asia and Lucien Michel as a Senior Wine Specialist. These appointments signal Bonhams’ expansion in the wine business in Asia, in conjunction with the launch of its new Asia headquarters in Hong Kong on October 14.
Tang is a wine veteran with 14 years of industry experience in the Asian market. Prior to joining Bonhams, he served as the Head of Asia for Zachys Wine Auctions in Hong Kong, where he organized notable single-owner sales, including the Dynasty Collection, All Star Collection, and the Ultimate Leroy Collection. Tang is also a member of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, highlighting his extensive understanding of Burgundy.
Joining Tang is Lucien Michel. During his decade in Asia, Michel gained valuable experience in client growth and engagement within the wine and spirits sector. Before his new role at Bonhams, he worked as the Private Client Relationship Manager at Edrington, a leading spirits company with renowned brands such as The Macallan, Highland Park, and Famous Grouse. Previously, he served as an account manager at Sotheby’s.

This year, Bonhams has been continuously expanding its global wine and spirits business, beginning with the appointment of Amayès Aouli as the Global Head of Wine and Spirits in January. The company also strengthened its wine business in the US by appointing new leaders, including Marie Keep as Head of Wine & Spirits for Bonhams Americas, and collaborating with established wine companies, such as Gordon’s Fine Wines and The Gérard Basset Foundation.
Aouli commended the appointment of Tang and Michel, expressing optimism for the Asian wine market. He stated, “We are delighted to welcome Terrence and Lucien, two highly respected professionals in the wine and spirits industry, to join the innovative and global team of Bonhams. Asia, and Hong Kong are the backbone of the market and crucial for Bonhams’ growth. We are excited to strengthen our Asia team, especially at this pivotal moment with the Asia headquarters expansion. Their profound market insight and strong client connections will empower us to act as the most trusted advisors as we embark on this new chapter in our new home, providing the best services to our discerning clients across the globe.”
On October 14, Bonhams will launch its new Asia headquarters at Six Pacific Place in Admiralty, Hong Kong’s central business hub, underscoring the strategic importance of Asia in its global development.
