HHB Music Bar
Jack Ma, the Chinese billionaire, is a known wine lover and owner of a few Bordeaux wineries. Ma, a charismatic leader with a high dose of theatrical flair, Ma danced and moon-walked to Michael Jackson’s Dangerous at Alibaba’s 20th anniversary celebration. Last January, it looks like Ma combined both of his interests into one by creating HHB Music Bar.
According to news report, HHB is short for Happy Honey Badger, the mammal that has a flat-top haircut that earned it a Chinese name “Pingtou Ge”, an animal Ma admired for its fearlessness.
“I want to provide a space for everyone with good wine, music, and friends, rather than making money,” he said at the bar’s opening night.
With his natural showmanship, Ma did more than just congratulatory speech, he also performed Hiroshima Mon Amour at the opening ceremony. Despite Ma’s high-profile backing, the bar is not technically owned by him but a group of Alibaba top executives according to company registration. Just last month, the bar branched out and opened a new location in Shanghai on Fumin Road.
We haven’t seen the full wine list yet, but we imagine wines from Ma’s own Bordeaux estates, Château de Sours and Château Perenne, might be in the mix. Costumes worn by Ma during his Alibaba performance were on display at the bar as well.
