Hong Kong entertainment mogul Albert Yeung will auction 426 bottles of rare fine wine at Sotheby’s in September, including some of the most sought-after names in the world of collecting, with an estimated value exceeding HK$10 million.

The September 10 sale, titled “The Majestic Cellar of Dr. Albert Yeung”, will showcase top Burgundy and Bordeaux wines. Highlights include 1990 Romanée-Conti, Montrachet, multiple grands crus from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC), and classic vintages from the late Burgundy winemaker Henri Jayer, such as Cros Parantoux and Echezeaux.

From Bordeaux, the collection features Pétrus from 1966 to 2011, Le Pin 1982, and a double-magnum of Latour à Pomerol 1947, a bottle released only once at auction worldwide in the past decade.

“You are greeted by wall upon wall of the greatest names in the world of wine. Truly, there are only icons to be found here,” said George Lacey, Head of Wine at Sotheby’s Asia, after visiting Yeung’s cellar.

Yeung, 81, was born in Hong Kong in 1943. He began in the watch business before founding Emperor Entertainment, which launched the careers of Nicholas Tse, Joey Yung, and Twins. He has also worked closely with international action star Jackie Chan.

Burgundy continues to dominate global wine auctions, accounting for more than one-third of Sotheby’s worldwide sales in 2024. DRC alone contributed nearly 20%, with average grands crus case prices reaching a record £221,000 last year. Sotheby’s highest wine lot of 2024 was a case of Henri Jayer’s 1999 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux, which sold in Hong Kong for USD 152,600.

Asian buyers remain a driving force in the global market, making up 32% of Sotheby’s sales in 2024, second only to the United States. Hong Kong continues to serve as the company’s auction hub in Asia, followed by mainland China and Singapore.
