Would a Petit Chablis taste better with French singer Carla Bruni's song? Hong Kong wine writer Ronny Lau has curated a spotify playlist with Bourgogne Wine Board for your favorite Chablis.

For Petit Chablis, the wines are fresh, light and mellow, which matches with Carla Bruni’s joyful delivery of “Little French Song” in the Spotify playlist.

Lau suggests pairing 2020 Domaine Gérard Tremblay Petit Chablis which is a crisp, fresh and supple unoaked Chardonnay with mint, citrus and a hint of liquorice; and 2020 Domaine Louis Moreau Petit Chablis with fruity bouquet of apples and citrus lingering on a round, fine palate.

For the Chablis appellation, the wines are known for their invigorating character. These wines typically come with an easy nose and guide you to a more layered finish.

Lau suggests sipping them to “Ces Mots Simples” by French singer Vanessa Paradis, a song advancing from simple acoustic guitar to rhythmic strings.

For wine recommendations, Lau mentioned the 2020 Jean-Marc Brocard Domaine Sainte Claire Chablis with lemony notes expressing freshness and finesse of the Kimmeridgian terroir.

He also suggested uncorking 2020 J. Moreau & Fils Chablis, a wine from the region’s oldest winery. This wine presents a redolent of pear, pomelo and grapefruit, and ends with a floral and lightly spicy finish.

Chablis Premier Cru wines come with more complexity, yet able to demonstrate a superb balance of strength and subtlety.

Lau would habitually pair Chablis Premier Cru with upbeat songs of faster tempo and thicker texture, such as “In a Tree” by American folk singer Priscilla Ahn. The song features Priscilla Ahn’s angelic voice harmonised by a mix of acoustic guitars and drums.

The wines to be paired would be 2018 La Chablisienne Vaillons, Chablis Premier Cru which has graceful mineral notes and fleshy white fruit before a long and deep finish.

2020 Domaine Fourrey Cote de Lechet, Chablis Premier Cru is another perfect match with elegance, light spice and a slightly waxy texture.

Chablis Grand Cru + Joanna Wang

The southwest-facing Chablis Grand Cru vineyards, where grapes gained more exposure under the sun, give birth to the most soulful Chablis. To complement with its vivid character, Lau recommends Taiwanese-American singer Joanna Wang’s husky reworking of the golden classic “You’re Breaking My Heart”.

Wine lovers can pop open a bottle of 2018 Simonnet-Febvre Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru from the deep soil of the most extensive Grand Cru plot. After ageing in cellar for years, the luscious wine comes with an intensified body and ample mouthfeel with aromas of exotic fruit, hazelnut and vanilla.

Another perfect lead would be 2019 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Vaudesir Chablis Grand Cru with flavours of hazelnut, grilled almond, chalk and the classic flint taste.
