Western Australia, home to some of the world’s most pristine vineyards and award-winning wines, is set to take centre stage in Shanghai this November with the Western Australia Fine Wine Showcase — a landmark event bringing together the best of the state’s producers under one roof for the very first time in China.
Taking place on November 10 and 11 at The Langham, Shanghai, the two-day event will feature close to 200 wines from around 30 leading Western Australian wineries, spanning Margaret River, Great Southern, Swan Valley, Geographe, and Pemberton.
This will be the first-ever and most comprehensive showcase of Western Australian wines in China that is jointly delivered by the industry and supported by the Government of Western Australia, marking a historic milestone in the state’s wine export journey. The collaboration underscores Western Australia’s commitment to the Chinese market and highlights the strength of its public–private partnership in promoting premium wine exports and building lasting trade relationships.
“This is an unprecedented opportunity for the Chinese wine trade to discover the full spectrum of what Western Australia has to offer — from the iconic wineries of Margaret River to the emerging stars of Great Southern and Geographe,” said Wines of Western Australia CEO Larry Jorgensen. “It’s an exhilarating celebration of craftsmanship, diversity, and the collaborative spirit that defines our wine community.”

A Global Reputation for Excellence
Western Australia is home to nine distinct wine regions, each with its own terroir and winemaking identity. From the maritime elegance of Margaret River and the cool-climate finesse of Great Southern to the heritage of Swan Valley and the innovation of Geographe and Pemberton, Western Australia produces wines of exceptional diversity and international acclaim.
Though the state accounts for 2.7% of Australia’s total grape crush in 2025, it consistently punches above its weight in quality. China remains Western Australia’s largest export market, accounting for around 30.5% of total exports by value, reflecting deep and enduring ties between the two wine communities.

A Showcase Designed for the Trade
The Western Australia Fine Wine Showcase will feature two masterclasses and grand tastings curated for importers, distributors, retailers, hoteliers, restaurateurs, beverage managers, and sommeliers — offering a rare opportunity to taste newly released and limited-production wines before they enter the market.
On November 10, acclaimed Chinese wine educator and influencer Xiao Pi will lead two themed masterclasses at The Langham’s Ruby Room:
- Western Australian Whites — exploring top Chardonnays and Rieslings from Margaret River, Great Southern, and Pemberton;
- Western Australian Reds — showcasing fresh styles and trends in Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Grenache, and Malbec.
On November 11, the event will culminate in a grand walk-around tasting at the Langham’s Diamond Ballroom A, featuring nearly 30 wineries pouring around 200 wines — including flagship cuvées, newly launched vintages, and labels not yet widely available in mainland China.

Quality, Sustainability, and Value
Western Australian wines have earned global recognition for their harmony of premium quality, sustainability, and accessibility. Many vineyards are certified organic or sustainably managed, reinforcing the state’s image as one of the world’s cleanest, most environmentally conscious wine regions.
Margaret River, the state’s flagship, continues to set international benchmarks. At the 2025 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) — often called the Oscars of the wine world — Margaret River wineries won 39 gold medals, reaffirming their place among the world’s finest.
Strengthening Ties with China
The Western Australia Fine Wine Showcase represents a renewed commitment to deepen ties between Western Australia and China’s wine trade and hospitality sectors. The event aims to foster long-term partnerships between Western Australian producers and Chinese importers, distributors, and opinion leaders, while inspiring a new generation of consumers to discover the state’s wines.
“China has been a vital market for Western Australia’s wine industry for more than a decade,” Larry Jorgensen said. “This showcase is about building on that foundation — connecting directly with trade professionals, sharing our stories, and highlighting what makes Western Australian wines so distinctive. This is the next step in building a long-term, engaged relationship with the Chinese wine trade.”
